About the Program

The Cherry Blossom Princess Program is an annual event of the National Conference of State Societies (NCSS). Each US state, territory, and several foreign embassies select a Cherry Blossom Princess. Participants enjoy a week of personal development and cultural exchange activities that celebrate the unique and enduring friendship between the United States and Japan.

There are several opportunities to take part in the Cherry Blossom Princess Events. Learn more about each event on NCSS’s website. Selby Bailey

Selby Bailey of Russellville
Arkansas State Society 2018 Cherry Blossom Princess

Throughout my 19 years of life, I have lived in four incredible states due to my father’s honorable military career. My journey began in South Dakota and continued on to Georgia and Maryland. When I was nine years old, my parents made the best decision for my sister and I and moved us to my father’s hometown of Russellville, Arkansas. Russellville is a relatively small southern town that has been a wonderful place to grow up. It’s a place that afforded me many opportunities to participate in a variety of activities such as participating in parades, joining 4-H and showing rabbits, learning to drive with a smaller amount of traffic, belonging to an active church youth group, and being able to own horses and deer hunt. One of my favorite past times is attending University of Arkansas football, basketball and baseball games. My family and I spend a lot of time exploring the wonders of the breathtaking Natural State. We love hiking in the Ozark Mountains and enjoy kayaking and boating on Lake Dardanelle. Currently, I am a freshman at Harding University and am majoring in Nutrition and Dietetics with hopes of working as a dietician for our military. I am proud to call Arkansas my home and hope you will consider me to represent the beautiful state that has raised me.

I believe I would be a great candidate for the United States Cherry Blossom Queen due to my experience of living in many diverse states. I hold a great passion for my beautiful country and would be more than proud to represent it while traveling. I am outgoing and have no fear of meeting and talking to new people, and always see my glass as half full.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to apply for this wonderful experience representing Arkansas as a National Cherry Blossom Princess.
